What Is Compounded Semaglutide?
Compounded semaglutide is produced by licensed compounding pharmacies—pharmacies that are authorized to prepare custom medication formulations under federal and state regulations.
The active ingredient is semaglutide, the same molecule found in Ozempic and Wegovy. The compounding pharmacy produces it in injectable form at doses comparable to those used in FDA-approved medications.
Compounding pharmacies operate under either 503A (patient-specific) or 503B (outsourcing facility) designations. 503B facilities must meet FDA cGMP standards similar to those that apply to drug manufacturers, and are subject to regular FDA inspections.
